Swine Influenza

Swine influenza A (H1N1), more commonly known as “swine flu,” is a respiratory disease that occurs in pigs. People do not normally contract swine flu, but human infections can and do happen.

Although a patient was diagnosed with swine flu in Georgia, that case has been reclassified by the Centers for Disease Control as a Kentucky case, since the woman is from Kentucky. The virus spreads from person to person, often when an infected person sneezes or coughs, expelling germs, and a non-infected person touches a surface with those germs on it and allows those germs to pass inside their body. Germs usually enter the body through contact with the nose, mouth and eyes.

To educate the communities Floyd serves, Floyd has established these pages with helpful information for visitors on protecting themselves from catching swine flu, preventing the spread of swine flu and more.
